The Art of Seed Bonsai:A Unique Global Endeavor
From Digital Rights Management to The Art of Seed Bonsai :
A New Model for Publishing
The age of digital content, e-books, and the integration of text and multimedia content has arrived !
The degree to which people take advantage of electronic publishing varies significantly from country to country. The social environment, reading habits, and issues surrounding digital rights management all have an effect. Equally important are government policies, the expertise publishers bring to bear, and advancements made by the technology industry. It is these three players that most influence the adoption of electronic publishing:
1. The government, through policy choices and funding decisions, can create an environment that is favorable (or not) to electronic publishing.
2. Publishers, through their vision for the development of electronic publishing and their concerns about copyright violations, decide how they choose to participate in the market.
3. Technology companies, through the development of international standards and digital platforms, enable traditional publishers to present and distribute their content in truly unprecedented ways.
Together, we have arrived at a new place. The outdated idea that electronic books will replace paper books has been replaced with a more exciting realization:
E-books and paper books each have their strengths, and any text can be augmented with digital features.
The culmination of ten years of effort
Linfinity Publication Group has partnered with GSiMedia Corporation, a global electronic business platform, to create the technology to bring print and digital publishing together.
After overcoming numerous challenges over ten years of development, our digital content protection systems and cloudbased content distribution platform constitute a new mode of publishing. We believe that combining digital content with the paper codex represents the future of publishing.
The beauty of paper and the advantages of digital
The carefree elegance of walking down the street with a book, the sharing of a meaningful volume with a friend, the sensual experience of turning one page after another—none of this can be reproduced through digital means. Nevertheless, printed books are limited by their size and extensibility.
Digital texts are, of course, unencumbered by such restraints. Forward-looking publishers have long sought to find ways to combine the advantages of each format, but to do so successfully required the development of systems that secure the rights of the author and publisher.
A cloud-based platform that both protects intellectual property and secures online sales
When printed books are digitized and distributed electronically, they are often quickly stripped of their DRM protections and made available for free download. And when readers don’t pay for books, authors and publishers suffer. The publication of Linda Lin’s The Art of Seed Bonsai is both a response to the question of how paper and digital publishing cancomplement each other and a solution to the problem of copyright infringement.
Over her career, Lin has sold over 400,000 books. Lin’s renown and the universal appeal of seed bonsai across time, region, and culture has the potential to make this book a classic in the field.
Compiledpartially from previously published works and enl ivened with fresh audiovisual content from the author, The Art of Seed Bonsai is a milestone.
New Content
Lin’s art has attracted the support of numerous fans who share her love and connection with seed bonsai. For them, this book offers many new ideas to treasure.
A New Series
The Art of Seed Bonsai is being published in traditional Chinese characters, simplified Chinese characters, Japanese, French, Korean, German, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, and English. The aim is to share this art with the world and spotlight Taiwan’s contributions to the international arena.
A New Publishing Model
In line with global publishing trends, this book extends the text with digital content. With technology supplied by GSiMedia, the content is secured for authors and viewable by readers wherever and whenever they want it. Linda Lin not only wrote the book but was also responsible for the photography and video demonstrations. It is hoped that this definitive edition of Lin’s life’s work can serve as a model for other artists wishing to explore this new form of publishing.
New Art
Accompanying many of the photographs in the book are poems by three poets, Lin Zi, Lin Fuan Chan, and Ted Ho. They collaborated with Linda Lin to create a modern version of a traditional mode of Asian art in which poetry is paired with images.
At age 40, Linda Lin experienced an epiphany in her life. Formerly employed in public service, she had had a beautiful and promising career as a public servant. However, she had always had a life-long passion for beauty, the love of misshapen stones, and dead wood. According to her favorite thinking, she collected many pieces one-by-one; pieces that today reveal to us the strong taste of their owner, and all these can be admired in The Nest of the Sparrows. For her, life is revealed in different forms on a daily basis. For example, by carefully preparing a sweet potato and arranging it well, she can obtain a beautiful plant ornament. In autumn, when she eats a pomelo, she reflects on its use; and while collecting the pips, wonders how to cultivate them ... and this has been going on for forty years. For forty years, she has used different methods to grow seeds so that they can flourish in beauty. She has been able to promote simple ornamental office plants on the art scene. What is commendable is that it has made this art available to all and has made it useful. Plantings have the ability to purify the environment, soothe our spirit, and allow us to understand and learn from their life lessons. These splendors of nature captivate the eye. In order to convey their beauty, this horticulturist has been trained in precise photographic techniques and shares about a hundred seed and bonsai shots in her book, thus allowing us to discover the green and Zen universe of her world, created by her very hands. In addition, the miracles of these tiny plant lives have touched several writers, who by their poems, have praised their beauty and eulogized their emotion given.
